          Frequently Asked Questions

          FAQs

The most common questions from our customers
When should I lubricate my bike chain?

After every wash and drivetrain cleaning.

When should I replace my bike chain?

Using a proper chain wear indicator, if wear reaches 75%, it’s time to replace the chain.
If the indicator shows 100% wear, both the chain and cassette should be replaced.

Need help choosing the right chain for your bike? Get in touch — we’ll help you find the perfect match.

When should I service my bike’s suspension and shock absorber?

Servicing should be done based on the number of hours the bike is used or once a year — depending on the manufacturer's guidelines.

When should I check the tubeless sealant in my wheels?

Every 3 months, or sooner if you get a puncture and notice a loss of sealant.

What charge level should I leave my e-bike battery at if I won’t be using it for a while?

It’s recommended to store the battery with a charge between 30% and 60%.

What is a gravel bike and what type of rider is it best suited for?

Gravel bikes are highly versatile machines, built to deliver comfort and performance whether you’re riding on tarmac, dirt roads, rural paths, or unpaved cycle routes.

They’re the perfect choice for riders who want freedom beyond the asphalt — more comfortable than a road bike, yet faster and more efficient than a mountain bike.

At Bike in Portugal, we’ll help you find the right gravel bike for your riding style — whether that means exploring the trails around Sintra, heading out on a bikepacking adventure, or pushing your limits with long endurance rides.

          Key features:

          • Wider tyres for extra traction and comfort
          • Frame clearance for mud and accessories (such as frame bags or panniers)
          • Relaxed geometry, ideal for long-distance rides
          • Disc brakes for greater control on all types of terrain
          • Fully compatible with bikepacking and off-road adventures

          Who are gravel bikes for?

          • Riders who want to explore mixed routes with the freedom to leave the tarmac behind
          • Cyclists looking for a comfortable, robust and versatile bike
          • Adventurers interested in bikepacking or touring
          • Urban riders who prefer one bike for every kind of route
          • Riders who value versatility without compromising performance

At Bike in Portugal, we recommend TREK gravel models such as the Checkpoint — perfect both for beginners and for experienced cyclists who want to discover new routes, away from traffic and traditional roads.

What is the difference between a road bike and a gravel bike?

Although at first glance they may look similar, road bikes and gravel bikes are designed with different purposes — reflected in their geometry, tyres, comfort, and versatility.

          Road Bike

          • Built for performance on tarmac
          • More aerodynamic and aggressive riding position
          • Narrow tyres (usually 25–28 mm) for higher speed
          • Less comfort on rough or uneven surfaces
          • Ideal for training, racing, and long rides on the road

          Gravel Bike

          • Designed for mixed terrain: dirt roads, gravel, cycle paths, and tarmac
          • More comfortable and stable riding position
          • Wider tyres (38–45 mm or more) with extra traction
          • Frame clearance for mudguards, panniers, or bikepacking bags
          • Excellent for adventure, bikepacking, or commuting on varied routes

At Bike in Portugal, we help you choose the right bike for your goals:

          • If you prioritise speed and lightness on the road, a road bike is the perfect choice.
          • If you want versatility, comfort, and freedom to explore, we recommend a gravel bike such as the TREK Checkpoint.

What TREK gravel bikes can I find at Bike in Portugal?

At Bike in Portugal you’ll find the full range of TREK gravel bikes, with special emphasis on the popular Checkpoint — a bike that combines a lightweight frame, comfortable geometry, and clearance for wide tyres. Perfect for road, dirt, mud, or gravel.

          Available TREK Gravel Models:

          • Checkpoint ALR – aluminium version with excellent value for money.
          • Checkpoint SL – carbon frame for lighter weight and extra comfort.
          • Checkpoint SLR – the top-of-the-line model, ideal for long-distance rides and bikepacking.
          • Domane+ Gravel – e-gravel option for those who want to explore further with less effort.

All models can be ordered with customised builds and Project One options (personalised colours and components).

What are the best triathlon bikes in 2025?

The best triathlon bikes in 2025 are those that combine aerodynamics, comfort, integration, and customisation — always adapted to the type of triathlon you compete in (Sprint, Olympic, 70.3, or Ironman).

There are several factors to consider when choosing your bike:

          • Type of races you’ll be doing (short vs. long distance)
          • Ability to fine-tune your position (fit)
          • Integration of hydration, nutrition, and storage
          • Drivetrain system (electronic vs. mechanical)
          • Availability of technical support and after-sales service

Among the leading brands, Trek stands out with its Speed Concept line, known for elite-level performance and cutting-edge innovation. Two models in particular deserve attention:

          • Trek Speed Concept SLR 9 eTap: ultra-light carbon frame, SRAM electronic shifting, fully integrated cockpit, and built-in hydration system.
          • Trek Speed Concept SLR 7: the perfect choice for riders seeking high performance with a more balanced budget.

At Bike in Portugal, we are official Trek dealers, and we can order, assemble, and customise models like the Speed Concept SLR.
We also provide specialised triathlon bike services, including position fitting, component upgrades, and high-performance maintenance.

If you’re looking for a triathlon bike in the Lisbon, Cascais or Sintra area, Bike in Portugal is one of the best options to consider.

At Bike in Portugal, we are official Trek dealers with access to the exclusive Speed Concept line — bikes engineered for triathlon and time-trial racing, offering maximum aerodynamics, integrated hydration, and an adjustable cockpit.

          ✔️ Models available to order:

          • Trek Speed Concept SLR 7
          • Trek Speed Concept SLR 9
          • Trek Speed Concept Frameset (for custom builds)
          • Project One options for full personalisation

More than just selling bikes, we provide professional bike fitting, assembly, and specialised maintenance for triathlon models. Our technical team is ready to fine-tune aerodynamic geometry, install aero extensions, adjust electronic drivetrains, and configure the bike to your body and race style.

Our store is located on the border between Cascais and Sintra, right next to CascaiShopping and the Estoril Racetrack, with easy access from Lisbon (via A5 or IC19).

How can I buy a bike from Bike in Portugal?

If the model you’re looking for is in stock, the process is quick and easy.

We assemble the bike, adjust it to your measurements, and you can pick it up the very same day.

If we need to order it from TREK, a reservation payment will be required, with the remaining balance paid upon collection in-store.

Do you offer financing for bike purchases?

Yes, we offer financing through the FLOA platform (floapay.pt), which allows you to pay for your bike and/or accessories in 3 or 4 monthly instalments.
The minimum amount is €50 and the maximum is €2,500.

What is the usual delivery time for a bike after ordering?

If the bike you ordered is available in TREK’s stock, delivery usually takes about 1 week to 10 days.

Please note that delays may occur due to shipping carriers or other external factors beyond our control.

When should I service my bike?

Your first service should be done 3 months after purchase or after riding 300 km — whichever comes first.

After that, servicing should be based on usage time (which can be tracked in kilometres) and whenever you feel it may be necessary.

What should I bring to my bike service appointment?
          • The battery key, if your bike is electric.
          • A list of any issues you’ve noticed.

          Still Have Questions?
